K-9 Unit
The Town of Hamburg Police Department has one K-9 unit consisting of Handler Ptlm. Sherry and K-9 Danio.
Danio is a German Shepherd imported from Germany, in January of 2016. He responds to German commands and lives with me, Handler Sherry, at home off duty. Danio was also purchased using drug seizure funds and completed his training in WNY. Danio and I continue to perform regular maintenance training locally in addition to any training seminars/workshops we attend. Danio is a dual purpose dog certified in narcotics detection and patrol work by the New York State of Criminal Justice Services. K9 Danio is trained in tracking, building searches, officer protection, evidence recovery, and area searches. He is trained to detect 6 narcotic odors.
In addition to serving the Town of Hamburg, we have assisted several outside agencies and the DEA task force. We regularly attend school searches as well as perform demonstrations at various community policing events.
Danio receives donations of food from Purina and has also received a first aid trauma kit and bulletproof vest from private donors.

K-9 UNIT (RETIRED)
K-9 Endy served the Town of Hamburg Police Department from August 2009 through December of 2017.
K-9 Endy was purchased using drug seizure funds and completed most of his training right here in Western New York. The team was certified by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, the North American Police Working Dog Association and the National Narcotics Detector Dog Association. The K-9 Unit was a dual purpose K-9 team capable of sniffing out narcotics and performing many patrol functions. K-9 Endy was trained in tracking, building searches, officer protection, evidence recovery and crowd control. K-9 Endy started his career assigned to the road patrol and then was assigned to the Town of Hamburg Narcotics Unit. K-9 Endy often assisted the DEA Drug Task Force, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and other local police agencies. Along with helping detect narcotics in local schools, K-9 Endy also made appearances at various events in the community. Whether it was using his nose to find drugs, to build probable cause to obtain search warrants or finding people, he played an integral part in many cases over the 8 years he spent with the department.
