SWAT Team

The Town of Hamburg SWAT team consists of 15 officers. Each officer receives special training and equipment to respond to high risk calls, such as barricaded and armed subject or drug search warrants. Each officer assigned to the team has attended and graduated from the Erie County Tactical Task Force SWAT academy. The team is deployed in an effort to reduce the possibility of injury to any officer or citizen involved in a specific incident.

Town of Hamburg SWAT Team members are on call 24/7, and are expected to respond at a moment's notice.

Training

The SWAT team trains a minimum of 8 hours each month, working on tactics and firearm skills. Tactics include 

  • High-Risk Warrant Service
  • Barricaded Suspects
  • Crowd Control
  • Hostage Rescue

Weapons assigned to the team include:

  • Light mounted AR 15 rifles
  • MP 5 Submachine Guns
  • Semi-auto Shotguns
  • GAS projectile launcher
  • 12 Gauge Less Lethal Weapon
  • Chemical Agents (Tear Gas)
  • High Powered Rifles

Incidents

S.W.A.T. is called upon numerous times per year and has handled such incidents as;

  • High Risk Search Warrants for Drugs
  • High Risk Arrest Warrants for Drug Dealers
  • Suicidal Persons
  • Barricaded Subjects
  • Federal high risk warrant service
  • Persons being held hostage
  • Town of Hamburg SWAT continues to prepare for the worse case scenario to be ready to react and protect and serve the citizens of our community
